Advancing evidence-based practice in rural nursing.

The Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice is an organizational change model. Little research has been done using the model at rural hospitals. This pilot study examined evidence-based practice at a rural hospital. Data were collected pre and post staff development. Most nurses had limited prior understanding. At follow-up, they reported the need for ongoing support. The first steps of the Iowa Organizational Change Model, even after staff development, presented barriers.
